Feb 9, 2006, I was commander of eight gun trucks (4 US, 4 Iraqi) with about 50 soldiers with the mission of taking 9 busloads of 150 freshly graduated Iraqi soldiers (unarmed and unarmored) from their school to the replacement detachment where they would be sent out to their new units. Similar to Gilligan's Island, this should be an easy "out and back" eight hour trip. 32+ hours later, after being mortared, fired on by small arms fire, then getting hit by an EID disabling my vehicle (I put the 2nd in command in charge and sent all but one gun truck to escort the graduates to safety while the one gun truck towed us the rest of the way to a safe American base) I finally got everybody back to their "homes" safe and sound and not a scratch on anyone. Once back to my room I took off my armor, sat down in my chair to relax (finally!!) and turned this song on. For whatever reason it was just "right" and touched me. I was feeling "too damn good." It's been my favorite ever since.
